Senior Tax Analyst

Maverick Natural Resources is a private oil and gas company headquartered in Houston, Texas. Maverick specializes in the management of mature upstream assets through application of automation and data-science technology while focusing on safety, emissions, and environmental responsibility. We are currently seeking a Tax Senior Analyst as Maverick continues on its growth path.


This position will assist with all tax accounting activities at Maverick including but not limited to:


  • Gather and prepare quarterly and annual income tax workpapers.
  • Assist in overseeing external tax service providers in preparation of annual tax returns and estimates.
  • Prepare quarterly federal and state income tax provision.
  • Prepare JE’s related to tax as part of quarter end close.
  • Prepare estimated federal, state and franchise tax estimated payments.
  • Monitor and maintain the tax compliance calendar.
  • Assist in Ad Valorem/Property taxes, transactional, indirect taxes and any other tax issues.
  • Conduct tax research using online tools and resources.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned


  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in tax compliance.
  • Bachelor degree with focus on accounting, tax or related discipline. 
  • Experience in the oil & gas industry is required.
  • Public accounting experience is required.
  • Partnership and corporate tax experience required.
  • Basic understanding of ASC 740 concepts is a plus.
  • Willingness to problem solve and learn is required.
  • Strong self-starter with initiative, attention to details and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be comfortable working with various people within the Company and our external tax service providers
